Clinker Motor Launch
Shearwater is a classic, stylish 21'
clinker motor launch, built by Currie’s Boatbuilders, Port Beag, Oban around
1970. She is believed to have been originally commissioned as a tender to the
Super Yacht – The Southern Cross.
Strongly built of European larch
planking on steamed oak timbers with copper-clench fastenings, and mahogany
detailing, Shearwater has a small enclosed cabin with opening brass ports and
bench seating (which could easily convert to 2 x 6’+ overnight berths). She
has a large, comfortable cockpit.
A major refit has just been completed,
including:
– fitting of a new Beta 28hp diesel
inboard (2 years warranty to run) with Vetus stainless steel controls, new
propellor, exhaust system, 2 new batteries and new automatic electric and
manual bilge pumps.
– the replacement of a damaged plank
using larch of matching quality to the original.
– all external woodwork has been taken
back to the wood and revarnished with International Original varnish.
Shearwater is wheel-steered from a
forward position, connected to a transom hung rudder. She handles
delightfully and will turn many heads.
Also included in the sale is a cockpit
cover, yard stand, anchor, warp and fenders.
