Michael Forbes Jnr (MIF) - Boat Babysitter

The founder of the business, MIF, worked for 7 years at Dunstaffnage Marina both for Alba Sailing and for the marina itself, at the same time studying for an HND and a degree in different aspects of engineering. MIF picked up a range of awards with this business start up both for entrepreneurship and for staff training. MIF continues to run the business as managing director mainly dealing with boat management customers both in the UK and overseas and overseeing large scale repairs and insurance jobs and has more recently completed a diploma in superyacht management.

Mike Forbes Snr - Brokerage Manager

Mike Snr has been helping out with the running of the business ever since MIF went self employed back in 2005. He has a keen interest in boating, having owned boats himself in the past, and a wealth of local knowledge being Oban born and bred. Mike now takes care of the brokerage side of the business and takes charge of most varnishing jobs that come up. Many may recognise him from his time working at Oban Marina on Kerrera, or from when he was running the FBC chandlery at Creran Marine.

Magnus Firth - Boat Babysitter

Magnus has been with us since January 2013 and during this time has grown to become a key member of the team. In addition to antifouling, polishing and valeting Magnus also carries out tasks such as gloss finishing and gelcoat repairs, and we frequently receive compliments from our customers about his attention to detail. Magnus was the first employee to complete our 18 month "Boat Babysitter" training package in the summer of 2014, which covers a wide range of aspects from sail training to engine servicing and repairs.

Thomas Waterhouse - Boat Babysitter

Thomas started with us as a contractor doing specialist woodwork repairs in October 2013 and came on as a full time member of staff in January 2014. Although Thomas specialises in woodwork, he is also working through the Boat Babysitter training programme. Many of our customers recognise Thomas from his time working in the boatyard at Barcaldine Marine. We should also point out that Thomas particularly likes being referred to as "Tam", so be sure to get that right when you meet him...

Jacqueline joined the team in the summer of 2015, starting out helping with administration in the office, but quickly progressing to assisting with the day to day running of the brokerage. Jacqueline is working her way through the BMF brokerage course and has been instrumental in the sale of a number of boats on the brokerage.

The Boat Babysitter training course
This is our own in-house training course aimed at giving the employee a good, rounded knowledge of sailing and power boats. During this 18 month period the employee will undertake various training courses such as RYA Day Skipper and the Diesel Engine course along with extensive practical training from yard work to gelcoat repairs and re-finishing. You can expect any employee who has completed or is undertaking this course to be professional and thorough. We feel that this course will produce staff who understand fully the care needed to look after your prize possession and who will go the extra mile to ensure that your boat is cared for to the best standard.
